Expert Medical Witness Services
Who I Am
I’m Dr. David W. Ford, a board-certified general surgeon with decades of surgical experience and clinical insight in both urban referral centers and smaller, rural/community hospitals (now practicing in Vail, Colorado).
My clinical practice includes minimally invasive and robotic surgery—especially cholecystectomy and hernia repair—as well as emergency and acute care general surgery.
Initially hesitant, I agreed out of a sense of responsibility to give back to the profession that had supported me during my own litigation experience. What started as a single review became a rewarding and ongoing part of my career.
Through case review, I discovered that I could provide attorneys with a clear, objective analysis of complex medical issues. I have a unique ability to synthesize medical facts and explain them in straightforward, layman’s terms, helping legal teams understand both the strengths and weaknesses of a case. This process not only benefits the attorneys I’m working with but has also enhanced my own practice, as I spend even more time carefully explaining and documenting patient care.
What I Offer
-
Analysis of medical records, operative reports, imaging, lab work, and other documentation
-
Identification of strengths and weaknesses in patient care, surgical decision‐making, timing, and technique
-
Clear, layperson-friendly explanations—so that non‐medical professionals (lawyers, juries) understand complex medical issues
-
Support in report preparation, depositions, and trial testimony if needed

Why Attorneys Retain Me
- Specialized niche: I focus especially on robotic and minimally invasive techniques, hernia work, and cholecystectomy, plus emergency general surgery. This specialization makes me a go-to for cases in these areas.
- Dual‐perspective experience: Having worked in large urban hospitals and small/rural hospitals gives me insight into how institutional resources and protocols differ—and how that may impact the standard of care.
- Relatable communicator:I believe in translating medical jargon into clear terms without oversimplifying, helping legal teams and judges/juries see the realistic medical landscape.
- Diligence and professionalism: I document carefully, respond in a timely fashion, maintain up-to-date credentials and publications, and strive to be objective and fair in every review.
